Day-1: After you arrival in Ulaanbaatar, you will be welcomed at the airport, and transferred to the hotel. Following lunch, there will be a city tour with visits to the Dinosaur Exhibition Hall at the Natural History Museum and to Gandan monastery. Dinner will be at the History Club restaurant, followed by an overnight stay at the hotel. (L,D)
Day-2:Ulaanbaatar-Ulkhiin Bulan (the Tuul river)
Our first stop will be the reserve of the wild horses (the Przewalski horse) re-introduced back to the native land of their ancestors. Next stop will be the monument ensemble constructed by the Tureg (Turkish) tribes during the 6th to 8th centuries. Just before camping, we will briefly stop at the “Ikh Alag “mountain which features Neolithic petroglyphs. For dinner, you will be offered the ‘’Boodog “, one of the Mongolian national delicacies, and then will spend the night in a tent.(B,L,D)
Day-3:Ulkhiin Bulan (Tuul river)- Remains of Ongi monastery
Today, we will head to the remains of the Ongi temple as our final destination. On the way there we will take a stop at the rock inscriptions that were made under decree of Tsogt Taij, the last descendant of the Mongolian Royal dynasty. At end of our full day’s journey, we will stop at the Ongi River, where the Ongi monastery was built. We will stay overnight at a tourist “Ger” camp next to the remains of the Ongi temple. (B,L,D)
Day-4: Remains of Ongi Monastery -Yoliin Am National Park
After a brief visit to the remains of the monastery, we will head for Yoliin Am National Park. Before Yoliin Am, we will make short stops to take photos of the extraordinary landscapes of the volcanic area and the stunning “Flaming Cliffs”, the place where, in 1922, American paleontologist Roy Chapman Andrews found over 100 dinosaur bones and eggs (fossils). We will stay overnight in the tourist camp a foot away from the gate of Yoliin Am. N.P.(B,L,D)
Day-5:Yoliin am National Park—Khongoriin Sand Dunes
We will visit the Yolin Am National Park that is considered to be one of the most beautiful places in the Gobi Desert with gorges filled with ice, unique flora and wild animals such as the wild sheep and the ibex. There is a local Natural History Museum with dinosaur bones and eggs at the entrance of the Yolin Am National Park. On the south-west side of the National Park we will cross a very narrow gorge which is called “Dungeree Am” where we should see wild sheep and ibex.
We will continue driving from the Yolin Am National Park to the Khongoriin Els (sand dunes) that stretch for 100km in length and 4 km in width. We will stay overnight in a tourist camp next to the Khongoriin sand dune.(B,L,D)
Day-6:Khongoriin Sand Dune-----Nemegt Canyon.
Today, we will head to the Nemegt Canyon, passing through the Khongoriin Els sand dune. The Nemegt Canyon is the second largest canyon in Mongolia, where various kinds of dinosaur fossils were found, such as those belonging to the Ouiraptosauria, and Oviraptor. Before the Nemegt canyon, our route will pass the Saltwater Lake, a habitat of wild donkeys, with a saxaul forest as well, and the geologically interesting rock formation, the Khanan Mountain.(B,L,D)
Day-7:Nemegt Canyon ---Sulganai Oasis.
Today we will head to the Zulganai oasis that is the last oasis untouched by humanity. Further on our way, we will stop at a place where artesian water pours right from the top of a hill. Tourists usually wash and clean off the desert dust at this natural “shower”. We will camp beside the oasis “Zulganai” that exists not too far from this place.(B,L,D)
Day-8: Zulganai oasis--- Zuun mod oasis (One Hundred Trees)
Today we will see Mongolia’s largest canyon, the Khermen tsav, which has emerged due to a hundred thousand years of erosion of the red sand. There are many plants, trees as well as many fossilized remains of ancient animals and dinosaurs in the canyon. In some parts of our journey we will be driving off-road. We will stay overnight in a tent at the Zuun Mod Oasis. (B,L,D)
Day-9:Zuun Mod Oasis (One Hundred Tree Oasis) - Boon Tsagaan Lake
Today, we will visit the colorful mountain “Shine Jinst” and the saltwater Boon Tsagaan Lake that is located at the foot of the Gobi-Altai Mountain Range. You may enjoy swimming there. Later we will see Neolithic rock drawings during our journey. We will stay overnight in tents right on the lake-shore. (B,L,D)
Day 10:Boon Tsagaan Lake—Shargaljuut Hot Spring
We will be driving from the Boon Tsagaan Lake to the Shargaljuut Hot Spring Sanatorium, where water temperature may hit +50°C. The main attraction is the “Shaliin Khooloi”, an amazing plateau of the western lakes of Mongolia and the Deer stones of the Bronze Age. There will be an overnight stay at a tourist camp where you will have the opportunity to have a hot shower or bath. (B,L,D)
Day 11:Shargaljuut Hot Spring- Waterfall “Ulaan Tsutgalan”
Today we will pass by the Elbekhiin Davaa Mountain which has many beautiful flowers and plants and reach the Tamch River, where trout may be caught by bare hand. We will stop many times during the trip to take photos of yaks as well as the everyday life scenes of nomads. At the end of the day, we will camp near the waterfall which represents a valley filled with volcanic lava. There will be an overnight stay in a Mongol “Ger”.(B,L,D)
Day 12:Waterfall “Ulaan Tsutgalan”-Ugii Lake
From the waterfall, we will drive towards Kharkhorum, the ruins of the ancient capital of the Mongolian Empire in the 13th century, and the Erdenezuu Monastery of the16th century that once used to be a center of Buddhism in Mongolia. From there, our team will set off for the Khushoo Tsaidam Monument of the Turkish khanate, which dates from the 6th and the 7th centuries. We will stay overnight in a tourist “Ger” camp at the lakeshore where you may choose to do some fishing or swimming. (B,L,D)
Day 13:Ugii Lake ---Ulaanbaatar (Capital of Mongolia)
Today, our main tourist destination will be the Khar Bukhiin Balgas ruins that once used to be a castle of the Kidan dynasty, dating back to the 10th – 11th centuries. We will arrive in Ulaanbaatar at around 4 p.m. and check into the hotel. Afterwards we will go for a brief shopping tour, before a farewell party in the evening. (B,L,D)
Day 14: Checking out of the hotel and departure from Mongolia. (B)
